Automation has changed print finishing a great deal in the past few years. Paper folder, book binders, and even laminators have become smarter and easier to use. Touch screen set-ups make it so inexperienced users can output the same quality as an expert.

Paper folders in particular have had a huge benefit from automation. Running a production console paper folder and setting it up properly takes years of practice. It is truly a skilled trade. When there are 6 fold plates and a single panel needs to be adjusted it can be a very difficult process. Automation makes it so anyone can adjust it perfectly.

Book binders have also benefited from the automation in the world of print finishing. Setting up a glue pot to get the right amount of glue on a book spine takes some practice and can have a lot of waste. Automation allows us to get a perfect first book.

Although automation has enhanced almost every process in print finishing, the principals have remained the same. Finishing processes on digitally printed materials can raise their value exponentially
